Following on from yesterday’s how to maintain your wooden shed Waltons.co.uk will now offer information on how to maintain a metal shed. If you missed yesterday’s article then make sure you check the waltons.co.uk news section which includes a range of useful articles.

Metal shed maintenance

If you own a metal shed the first piece of advice would be to make sure it is hinged to the floor so it is 100% stable. Waltons.co.uk metal sheds can withhold gale winds and poor weather conditions but are much sturdier if you attach them to the ground appropriately. Ensure your metal shed is erected in a light area that is not shaded from overhanging trees preventing sunlight. It is important for your shed to be in the sunlight so the metal shed can dry out and prevent dampness.

The next piece of advice is to ensure the base of the shed is solid, level and has a gap around the outside of the shed so water cannot enter the building. This will prevent dampness and rotting to items that are stored inside the metal shed.

Snow is something of a rarity in the UK up until recently where we have had an abundance of it. Waltons.co.uk offer a snow brace that you can add to the top of your metal shed to strengthen the building. If you do not have one of these then the weight of the snow if like the foot and a half that some places in the UK had can cause a large amount of unnecessary pressure to the roof. By having a snow brace this will reinforce the roof of your metal shed and protect you from all weather conditions ensuring your metal shed is maintained throughout the year.

If you notice scratches to your metal shed then ensure they are treated otherwise they may become rusty. There are many treatment packages that can be bought to treat scratches to your metal shed so make sure you have the appropriate treatment.

If you are finding condensation within your shed the simplest way to minimize this from occurring is to place a bowl or bucket of salt in the building. Simple inexpensive and effective, the best way!!

The benefit of a metal shed is that it doesn’t need a large amount of maintenance.
