Our garden bars come with full assembly instructions. It’s a straightforward task for a reasonably capable DIYer, especially with an assistant to help. The process is as follows:

  • Find a suitable location
  • Prepare the base
  • Check the base is flat, level and clear of debris
  • Install the bar as per the step-by-step instructions in your pack

However, if you prefer, you can choose our home installation and ready painted services and save yourself the job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are garden bars weatherproof and suitable for year-round use?

Yes, Waltons garden bars can be used outside all year round. The garden bars are manufactured using pressure treated timber, which has been fitted together with robust tongue and groove cladding and strong framing construction to help protect against harsh weather conditions. Waltons garden bars also come with a 15-year anti-rot guarantee.

Can a garden bar be used as more than just a bar?

Yes, a garden bar can be far more versatile than its name suggests. It is a perfect addition to serve as an outdoor serving hatch, BBQ prep station, outdoor coffee counter, party hub or relaxed garden shelter. With seating and lighting, it becomes a sociable feature for warm evenings and weekend gatherings.

What base is required for a garden bar?

A garden bar should be installed on a flat, level and debris-free base. Concrete and paving slabs are popular choices because they provide firm support and stability. Waltons advises preparing the base before installation and checking that it is level before assembly begins.

Do garden bars require maintenance or treatment?

Yes, garden bars do require treatment and should be given wood preserver and waterproofing within 14 days of assembly. This helps protect the timber and preserve the finish. Continue to follow the product’s maintenance guidance after installation.

Are garden bars easy to assemble or install?

All of Waltons’ garden bars come complete with an instruction manual so that customers can easily build them at home. It is simple enough to install for a moderately skilled DIY enthusiast, especially when you have a second pair of hands to help. Home installation on selected models is available if you prefer professional assembly.

Do I need planning permission for a garden bar?

Garden buildings such as bars don’t usually require planning permission, so you should be good to go. However, it’s still worth acquainting yourself with planning law as there are some exceptions in certain circumstances. For example, the total area of all the bases for your garden buildings, outhouses and extensions should not exceed 50% of your property’s outside space. For more information, see our guide to planning permission for garden buildings.
