Cube saunas

Whether your garden is compact or you simply want the building to earn its footprint, cube saunas offer a square plan that gives you more bench space in less ground than a longer, narrower sauna.

The shape does the work. A square floor plan lets benching run along more than one wall rather than stretching down a single side, which is what turns a small building into one that seats a family comfortably.

Like the rest of our sauna range, our cube saunas carry a 10-year anti-rot guarantee, are built from sustainably sourced timber, and use low heat conductive materials inside so benches and fittings stay comfortable to touch at temperature.

Is a cube sauna right for your garden?

A cube sauna tends to suit you if:

  • Space is tight and you want the most bench space for the smallest footprint
  • The sauna will be visible from the house and needs to look deliberate
  • You want a clean, contemporary shape rather than a traditional one
  • You are heating a smaller room and want it up to temperature quickly

If you have more space, or you want a changing room or veranda attached, look at our log cabin saunas. Both heat in exactly the same way and take the same heaters, so the choice comes down to the garden and the space rather than the sauna experience.

Heating your cube sauna

Cube saunas can be fitted with either an electric heater or a traditional wood burning stove. Electric is quicker to bring up to temperature and simpler day to day, needing only a mains connection. A wood burner needs no electricity at all and gives you the fire tending ritual that many people are really buying a sauna for. We have written a full comparison of wood fired versus electric heating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need planning permission for a cube sauna?

Usually not. Under permitted development a garden building generally needs to be for domestic use, take up less than half the garden, and stay under 2.5 metres tall if it sits within 2 metres of a boundary. Check the overall height on the specification against where you plan to put it.

Does a cube sauna need a concrete base?

Not always. If the ground is already solid and level, a cube sauna can be built straight onto it. What matters is that the base is flat and stays flat, because a square building shows up an uneven base more obviously than most.

How many people does a cube sauna seat?

It depends on the model and the bench layout. Check the specification on each product page, where the internal dimensions and bench arrangement are listed in full.

Can a cube sauna be used all year round?

Yes. Doors and windows are sealed against the weather and the timber is built to cope with British winters. As with any timber building, the exterior needs treating annually with a quality wood treatment to keep the anti-rot guarantee valid.
