Our outdoor play range brings together wooden climbing frames, swing sets and playhouses, all made from sustainably sourced timber. Use this guide to compare the types, check the space you need and plan delivery and building.
Choosing your play equipment
- Wooden climbing frames are built around a raised tower, usually with a slide and one or two swings. Some add a climbing wall, monkey bars, a picnic table or a shop front.
- Watchtower climbing frames have a raised platform and a single or double swing. Most have a 2.65m slide, and three have a triple platform with two slides.
- Climbing frames with monkey bars add a set of monkey bars to a frame with a single swing.
- LittleSummit comes as a tower, a small tower playhouse or a large tower playhouse, each with a slide, shop front, bench and covered cubby, with or without a single or double swing and a climbing wall.
- Tower playhouses with climbing walls bring together the LittleSummit and Watchtower sets that have a climbing wall.
- Swing sets are made from pressure treated round poles. Choose single swings, double swings or swing and slide sets, with a child or baby seat, and some with a climbing wall.
- Playhouses include wooden playhouses, from the 4x4 Snug to the two storey 7x5 Swiss Cottage and the 7x5 Snowdrop with a loft, and tower playhouses that sit up on a platform, most with a slide.
Sizes and space
Climbing frames are about 3.8m deep and from 2.2m to 4.1m wide. Watchtower frames are about 4.9m deep and from 2.7m to 5.1m wide, and LittleSummit sets are about 4.3m deep and from 2.3m to 5.2m wide. Swing sets start at about 1.7m x 1.8m for a single swing, and every swing set with a slide is about 3.2m deep. Sizes are approximate, so check the measurements in the Specifications tab of the frame or swing set you choose.
What you get
- Timber: climbing frames, Watchtower frames and LittleSummit towers are untreated natural wood. Swing sets have pressure treated poles, and wooden playhouses are built from shiplap tongue and groove boards. All of it is sustainably sourced.
- Swings: child seats, baby seats or one of each, depending on the set. Many frames have height adjustable swings.
- On the tower: most climbing frames and Watchtower frames have a telescope and a wheel.
- Safety: child-safe construction on the climbing frames and swing sets. The wooden playhouse safety features are in the questions below.
- Building it yourself: instructions with every product, and it is a two-person job.
- Add-ons: wood stain and paint, and home installation, can be added on the product page.
Delivery and installation
Delivery is free to most UK postcodes. Some postcodes carry a delivery charge, and the exact cost shows at checkout. Each product page shows a standard delivery estimate, and you can check delivery to your postcode there or on our delivery page.
Delivery is to the kerbside only. The driver unloads piece by piece but can't carry anything through your home, so plan how the parts will reach your garden. On the day, we text you an estimated two hour delivery slot.
Home Installation (building only) can be added to any product here at extra cost. Our installers need a level site and direct access to the garden, not through the house, a garage or a neighbour's property. If you are having a playhouse installed, have a firm, level base ready first. Our installation service page explains how it works.
Outdoor play questions
Can I build it myself?
Yes. Each climbing frame, swing set and playhouse comes with instructions and is a two-person job. If you would rather not build it, add Home Installation (building only) on the product page at extra cost.
Is the timber treated?
Swing sets have pressure treated poles. Climbing frames, Watchtower frames and LittleSummit towers are untreated natural wood. Most wooden playhouses need a coat of good quality timber treatment once they are built. Wood stain and paint can be added to any product when you order.
Can I get a baby swing seat?
Yes. Some climbing frames and swing sets come with a baby seat, or a baby seat and a child seat, and many LittleSummit sets let you choose a child or baby swing. Use the Swing Seat filter on this page to find the frames and swing sets.
What safety features do the wooden playhouses have?
Our wooden playhouses are EN71 certified and UKCA marked. They have a finger gap of at least 12mm around the door, styrene windows instead of glass, rounded timbers and ventilation holes.
